Information (updated May 11, 2007)

Location of the Summer School: The summer school will take place at auditorium MORE52, place Montesquieu, n°2 in Louvain-la-Neuve (see the map, square E5, number 24). The lunch will take place at the sandwich shop "D'un Pain à l'autre", Grand Rue n°20 (on the map, square E6 in front of "(P)GRAND RUE")

General information: The Graduate School in Statistics and Actuarial Sciences announces a Summer School on three different topics in nonparametric statistics to be held in Louvain-la-Neuve Monday May 21 to Thursday May 24, 2007. Each of the following three international experts - Oliver Linton (London School of Economics) on "Nonparametrics in finance", Jean Opsomer (Iowa State University)on "Nonparametrics in surveys", and Marten Wegkamp (Florida State University) on "Nonparametric model selection methods" - will give a short course of 6 hrs lecture during this summer school. In addition, informal contacts between participants and speakers will be encouraged during coffee and lunch breaks as well as discussion groups and a social activity on Wednesday May 23 afternoon. The participation at the Summer School is free of charge but travel and potential overnight accomodation for those who wish need to be organised individually. The schedule of the courses will allow to follow all or a subset of them.
Lunch breaks: On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday the participants of the short courses organised at that day are invited to a light sandwich lunch organised as a common activity by us. Please understand that once you have registered for the lunches, your registration to that lunch is binding.
On Wednesday the lunch (plus the following social activity) will be a barbecue in a shelter (against potential bad weather) in the nearby recreation area "Bois des Reves". Your registration to that barbecue is binding, too.

After the registration deadline of May 1st you will find detailed information about where the lectures are going to take place - plus access information for foreign participants. Those who need accommodation will receive an e-mail (provided they have registered) how to reserve a room in the nearby hotel Le Relais on their own expenses and as soon as possible. The number of available rooms is limited, so if you do not stay for the whole period, please specify the exact number of nights you are going to stay. Additional accommodation will only be available in Brussels which is 45 min by train from Louvain-la-Neuve.

Details on the three short courses

Oliver Linton (LSE) "Nonparametrics in Financial Econometrics: Discrete time volatility and Continuous time processes"

Jean Opsomer (Iowa State University) "Nonparametric regression methods in surveys"

Marten Wegkamp (Florida State University) "Aggregation and sparsity oracle inequalities in nonparametric classification and regression"

Each course will be given by 4 times 1.5 hrs plus time for discussion..
