  • Summer school with three short courses on "Advanced nonparametric statistics" of the Graduate School: May 21-24, 2007, Institut de statistique, Louvain-la-Neuve. Speakers are : Oliver Linton (LSE), Jean Opsomer (Iowa State) and Marten Wegkamp (Florida State). Each of these international experts will give a 6 hrs lecture during this summer school. In addition informal contacts between participants and speakers will be encouraged during coffee, lunch and social activities. For detailed information, please see here.

  • November 22 and 23, 2007, Louvain-la-Neuve: Amy Anderson (Department of Mathematics, Western Washington University, USA) will give a short course on statistics and genomics. The course will take place according to the following schedule:
    • 6 hours course on Thursday November 22, 10h30-18h00, Institute of Statistics, UCL - Room C115
    • 2 hours of computer lab with SAS JMP Genomics on Friday November 23, 10h00-12h00, Salle informatique SOCRATE (SOCR 30 or 31 to be confirmed).
    Note: This event is completed on November 23 by an afternoon on biostatistics with two speakers in the seminar series of the Institute of Statistics, UCL.

  • December 20 and 21, 2007, ULB: Matías Salibián-Barrera (http://www.stat.ubc.ca/~matias/), University of British Columbia, is going to give a short course (6 hrs) on "Inference based on robust statistics" (asymptotics, bootstrap, and robustness of inference methods (robust confidence intervals, etc.)).
    Schedule: Thursday Dec 20: 10-12h and 14h-16h, Friday Dec 21: 10-12h. The course is followed by a 1hr seminar on Friday afternoon (14h-15h). (details)

  • January 21 and 22, 2008, UCL, Institut de statistique: Lutz Dümbgen (http://www.imsv.unibe.ch/~duembgen/), University of Bern, is going to give a 8h-short course on "Statistical Inference for Curve Estimation and Classification" (2-3 times 2h on curve estimation with shrinkage and multiscale methods, 1-2 times 2h on classification).

  • April 29-30, 2008, UCL, ACTU, voie du Roman Pays, 20 in Louvain-la-Neuve: Hansjoerg Albrecher (Radon Institute, Linz, Austria) will give a short course on "Advanced Ruin Theory". After having recalled the techniques in the classical Cramer-Lundberg model, related with renewal models and discounted penalty functions, the course will describe how to account for dependence, dividends, and taxes. Stochastic simulation techniques will also be discussed.
