Léopold SIMAR
 

Léopold Simar is Full Professor of Statistics at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL). He founded the Institute of Statistics at UCL in 1992, and chaired the Institute from its creation till 2004. Prior to his remarkable career at UCL, he was dean from 1978 till 1990 of the "Faculté des Sciences Economiques Sociales et Politiques" at FUSL (Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis).

Léopold Simar is one of the world’s experts on problems of frontier estimation. His work has found application in a broad variety of fields, including efficiency studies in industry, air traffic control, research output of universities, insurance companies,... He serves as associate editor of the Journal of Productivity Analysis. In 2006-07, he was "Professore di Chiara Fama" at the "Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna" in Pisa and the University of Pisa. He is currently holder of the "Chaire d'Excellence Pierre de Fermat", Université Toulouse I (2008-09). He has over 100 refereed publications (papers, books, chapters in books,...) and has given over 100 invited talks.

Finally, Léopold Simar is also a remarkable and inspirational teacher. He is very well appreciated by his students, both on bachelor level and on master and PhD level.
